Tun Daim’s children rebuke MACC for issuing a misleading public notice

LAWYERS representing two of the former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin children condemned the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for issuing a public notice seeking information on their whereabouts.

Counsel for Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin argued the move was reckless, defamatory, and misleading, stressing their clients had cooperated fully with investigators.

Lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh said MACC decided to publicly reveal their clients’ names, photos, and home addresses despite the counsel being in constant communication with the commission.

They accused MACC of tarnishing reputations, undermining the presumption of innocence, and diverting attention from calls for a royal commission of inquiry into the commission’s leadership.

“There was neither any refusal to cooperate, nor was there any evasion. In fact, notices were only served on our clients (through their solicitors) on Feb 25 for them to attend an interview on March 11.

“Despite this, MACC has deemed it fit to jump the gun and issue this press release a mere two days after the notices were served.

“There is no basis for the public notice. It is a calculated move to give a false impression that our clients are running away or absconding from any investigation,” they said in a statement today.

MACC issued a statement seeking public assistance to locate Daim’s four children – Asnida Daim, Md Wira Dani, Amir, and Amin.

The statement listed their last-known personal addresses in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.  It also provides the contact information of investigating officers, urging the public to relay information to the authorities.

The lawyers said public perception would be skewed against all four individuals who have not been charged with any offence to date.

“Such conduct strikes at the heart of the presumption of innocence and the rule of law,” they added.  — Feb 28, 2026
