US officials claim Saudi crown prince urged Trump to continue Iran war

SAUDI ARABIA’S ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has in recent days urged President Trump to sustain military pressure on Iran, according to accounts from individuals familiar with discussions relayed by US officials.

Those briefed on the exchanges say the crown prince framed the joint U.S.-Israeli campaign as a rare chance to reshape the balance of power in the Middle East.

He also maintained that Iran represents a persistent strategic danger to Gulf states, one that, in his view, can only be resolved through a change in its governing system.

However, officials in both Washington and Riyadh have expressed concern about the risks of a prolonged conflict.

They warn that an extended war could provoke increasingly severe Iranian retaliation against Saudi oil infrastructure and potentially draw the United States into a long, open-ended military commitment.

News portal @GlobeEyeNews carried a similar news on X, and it has since garnered a good deal of opinions from netizens.

According to netizen @Mani_5060, here is less afraid of a war than a war that ends with the Islamic Republic in power.

“Because this regime will turn its humiliation into revenge against its own people. That outcome would be catastrophic for both Iran and the region,” he added.

Another netizen pointed out that 85% of Iran’s missiles and drones have been directed towards Muslim nations, and only 15% towards Israel.

“Saudi are benefiting with Oil rising, yes tourism takes a hit but it will likely bounce back when the conflict ends,” said netizen @_WorldMonitor_.

Publicly, President Trump has sent mixed signals, at times suggesting the fighting could wind down soon, while at other moments hinting at further escalation.

On Monday, he wrote on social media that U.S. officials had engaged in “productive conversations” with Iran aimed at fully resolving hostilities.

Iranian representatives, however, rejected the claim that any such talks were taking place.

Saudi authorities have denied suggestions that the crown prince has been advocating for a continuation of the war.

“The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always supported a peaceful resolution to this conflict, even before it began,” the Saudi government said in a statement, noting that officials “remain in close contact with the Trump administration and our commitment remains unchanged.” —Mar 25, 2026
