Rafizi spills the beans on his gentleman’s agreement with PMX over “no ministerial appt for Ramanan”

UNFAZED with the latest verbal attack on him by PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has taken a jibe at PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for giving the former ‘too much face’.

Extending his gratitude to Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim for defending him on Sunday’s (April 5) Johor PKR Convention which was marred with a heated exchange between the PKR lawmaker and Ramanan, the former PKR deputy president cheekily remarked: “Listen to Ramanan’s advice, PMX, you’ve chosen the wrong minister”.

“He (Ramanan) may think that such is a playful gesture between him and PMX but people can judge that real mannerism is not like that,” chided the former economy minister in his latest social media reaction.

“Ramanan behaved like that because he was quite confident of his influence with PMX.”

But Rafizi did not stop there as he resorted to tit-for-tat by spilling more beans of what is seemingly confidential political manoeuvres in the run-up to the 15th General Election (GE15).

“In the final days before the candidate announcements for GE15, only one seat remained without agreement between DS Anwar and I – that of Sungai Buloh (parliamentary seat),” recounted the Pandan MP.

“I stood firm in my position that between the two names, Sivarasa Rasiah (the incumbent at the time) and Ramanan, Sivarasa was the better candidate in every aspect. Moreover, at that time, Ramanan stubbornly refused to declare his assets while the other candidates had already submitted their asset declarations.”

Broken promises

Stating that his meeting with the PKR president at the PKR headquarters in Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya has “a witness who is very close to both Anwar and I”, Rafizi recalled vividly that PMX “held my knee and pleaded to let Ramanan be the candidate”.

This was when Rafizi told Anwar that he has “the final say”, hence need not have to plead like that to which the latter responded: “I don’t want you to make a fuss later.”

One ultimate request by Rafizi, however, is that he wanted Anwar to promise that “this is as far as Ramanan will go in PKR and politics”.

“You’ll not appoint him further in the party, and if we win and form the government, you’ll not appoint him into the government. DS Anwar looked relieved and agreed to those promises,” insisted Rafizi.

But after the unity government’s formation, Rafizi observed that even though Ramanan wasn’t appointed during the initial cabinet formation, he was “immediately appointed as a deputy minister (of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives) as soon as the first reshuffle happened around end-2023”.

“Since then, I knew there was a special relationship between Anwar and Ramanan to the point where the PM was willing to break his own promise to me which was witnessed by one of our other close mutual friends,” lamented Rafizi.

“If I had shared this before the PKR Johor Convention, people wouldn’t have believed it. Now, I hope the public can judge for themselves that DS Anwar is already tied down by people like Ramanan”. – April 7, 2026
