AP & Swatch collab, Royal Pop draws massive crowd, and violent brawls

WHAT MAKES a watch collector? We suppose the answer should be fairly similar to the stamp collectors out there, as long as things don’t become unhealthy and lead to hoarding issues.

A little bit of passion for one’s hobby wouldn’t hurt anyone. But tell that to the watch enthusiasts in a recent video post on X who were waiting in a long beeline just to get their hands on the latest Audemars Piguet and Swatch collaboration, Royal Pop Collection.

According to the video, the event turned into something similar to Mortal Kombat, where a brawl broke out. Netizen @mhmmdhsm who made the post even claimed that one of the customers broke a hand.

Now how are you supposed to wear that fancy watch you lined up for now that one of your hands is broken?

But netizen @ZamanX129 pointed out that the watch actually sits in the pocket, and not on the wrist. Yes, pocket watches do exist, but in a different era in the past.

@XWarisan further quoted the CEO of AP who said the Royal Pop collection is just for women. So why all the angry men there?

Also, @elessar039 wondered if the economy is truly getting worse if there are so many people lining up to eat at the luxury cafes and fast food restaurants.

“Only the poor chase luxury property to look like they are rich,” said @Malacire.

While we are more than happy to bash these foolish Malaysians for their public display of violence, note that the product is drawing massive attention worldwide.

“The crowds were so large and rowdy in some locations that police were called, and some people were cited and even arrested,” said Fox News, claiming that this is occurring at hundreds of stalls in America.

According to the Times Of India, the launch of the Royal Pop collaboration saw massive crowds, screaming queues, cancelled store openings, and frustrated buyers in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi and Dubai.

When we think about it, the condition here in Malaysia, or more specifically, the Pavilion Shopping Mall, is quite sedate. In the end, perhaps the real luxury is owning a watch without having to throw punches for it. —May 17, 2026
