Fahmi criticised for fake accusation “re-post” of Rafizi “having bought BERSAMA for RM8.6m”

COMMUNICATIONS Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has apparently been trolled by the newly revived Malaysian United Party a.k.a. Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA) fanbase after having allegedly “re-posted” a fake claim of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli “having bought the party for RM8.6 mil”.

This came about after the former economy minister and ex-Pandan MP rebutted such a claim by stating on record that “the party was entrusted to us without a single sen”.

(Its founder) Mr Tan (Gin Theam) just asked us to bring @partibersamamy to a new height,” clarified Rafizi who along with former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister and ex-Setiawangsa MP jointly took over BERSAMA on May 17 to serve as a new independent political force.

The action of the Madani spokesman was ticked off by Nik Nazmi who cited the former’s favourite phrase “it’s uncertain, don’t share”.

“He (Fahmi) re-posted the content claiming that @rafiziramli bought @partibersamamy for RM8.6 mil but who’s the source, ya?” snubbed Nik Nazmi who was also a former PKR vice-president on X.

“Will MCMC (the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) investigate this post if the content is untrue?”

In the original accusation, TikToker MayaAlesya (@mayaalesya7) has chided Rafizi for “being rich to be able to fork out RM8.6 mil to buy Parti Bersama Malaysia”.

“Rafizi needs to answer where he got the funds to buy BERSAMA for RM8.6 miil. Was it from the proceeds of the ARM Holdings corruption scandal or did he receive funds from George Soros?” accused the poster in a post which was viewed 154.1K times while garnering 2,550 likes, 306 comments and 386 shares at the time of writing.

KAYA BETUL RAFIZI BELI PARTI BERSAMA MALAYSIA RM8.6 JUTA! #Rafizi #PBM #politik

“The amount is not small but in order to discredit his old party (PKR) and the (Madani) government, Rafizi is willing to do anything so that the rakyat can trust him.”

For his action, many netizens lambasted Fahmi who is also the PKR information chief for having stooped so low to hit his former party comrade Rafizi below the belt.

“Honestly, it’s shameful when a minister shares something that is clearly a fitnah (slander),” slammed one self-proclaimed unapologetic commenter.

Come on @fahmi_fadzil since you re-posted, you must know if it’s “true”. Show us the paper trail that @rafiziramli bought over the #Bersama party. Don’t only just re-post. That is a low level cytro (cybertrooper) job.”

Another commenter suggested that Rafizi consider suing Fahmi having taken the cue from opposition-slant blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris a.k.a. Papagomo or Sir Azri who was held accountable and subject to paying damages for “re-posting” defamatory statements that cannot be proven.

Editor’s Note: This was in reverence to the Kuala Lumpur High Court having ordered Wan Azri to pay RM280,000 in damages to DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng and his son for defamation.

This was over Wan Azri alleging in a statement that Guan Eng’s son, Clint Lim Way Chau, had been detained at Singapore’s Changi Airport on Feb 29, 2020 for bringing in RM2 mil in cash without proper declaration.

Judge Roslan Mat Nor in his ruling on the suit filed on Oct 15, 2020 ordered Wan Azri to pay RM200,000 in damages and RM30,000 in costs to Guan Eng, and RM80,000 in damages and RM10,000 in costs to Way Chau. – May 25, 2026
