AS its deemed splinter, the newly revived Malaysian United Party a.k.a. Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA) continues to see its membership climbing since its inception 10 days ago (May 17), PKR is seen as ‘falling apart’ by detractors with its deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar “sacked as the warlord🫣”.
Such is the sarcasm levelled by former PKR grassroot-turned-BERSAMA member Faizal Rahman over PKR’s latest change-of-guard with its vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari appointed as the party’s joint election director to replace Nurul Izzah who is also the eldest daughter of party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Internal conflicts and personal principles that can no longer be contained. PKR heading towards a phase of collapse???” penned the lawyer at his own practice, Faizal Rahman & Co.
In unveiling the latest party revamp, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said Amirudin who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar would shoulder the responsibility together with (Home Minister) Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail who remains in the position.
“In the next phase, Nurul Izzah will continue to play a strategic role by focusing specifically on strengthening the capacity of the party machinery and organisational work towards a more robust and structured direction,” she pointed out in a statement yesterday (May 26) following a PKR Political Bureau meeting.
“This focus is part of the party’s investment in every grassroots member so that PKR’s strength continues to be built comprehensively, continuously and firmly rooted at all levels.”
Editor’s Note: The latest figure pointed to BERSAMA already having over 18,000 registered members as of May 23 which is barely a week after Nurul Izzah’s predecessor and former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and ex-PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad took over the party.
Key demographics of the membership base include first-timers (46%) and former PKR members (29%) while ethical origin pointed to Malays (62%); Chinese (15%); Indians (14%) and Other Bumiputera (9%).
Amid jeers that PKR can always bank on its vice-president Datuk Seri R, Ramanan who “has been optimistic of securing 80 seats for PKR come GE16 (16th General Election)” and calls for BERSAMA “to reject Nurul Izzah’s admission”, the latest development is likely a tell-tale sign that “she was unable to shoulder the responsibility to energise the party”.

In fact, her absence from several party programmes also indicates that the former Permatang Pauh MP “is in a dilemma”, according to political analyst Mohd Sayuti Omar.
“What’s her real problem actually? She seems to be facing an inferiority complex situation,” observed the former publisher of Malay language tabloid Siasah in a Facebook post.
“Replacing Izzah with Amirudin will not solve the problem. PKR seems to be facing problems in moving the party machinery and arranging a strategy to face the election.
The change of responsibility is also seen to have something to do with the current political atmosphere with a former party leader retreating from the party (presumably Rafizi).
Appointing Amirudin together with Saifuddin Nasution as co-election directors alone doesn’t guarantee that there’ll be an explosion or “wave” in PKR.
PKR needs to find other mechanisms such as to form of a special committee or appointing consultants who’re experts in devising election strategies. This matter needs to be acted upon quickly before it’s too late.
The political turmoil is getting more and more uncertain. Dr Fuziah Salleh as secretary-general needs to act swiftly.” – May 27, 2026
