MCA man is culprit in AI-doctored tudung-clad DAP Johor state polls candidates’ poster

WHAT was first thought of as an insider job when the smear campaign was first exposed by Johor DAP chairwoman Teo Nie Ching recently has been proven wrong with the ‘evil-doer’ identified as “Lee Ching Kong”, an MCA-appointed councillor at the Pontian Municipal Council.

Socio-political activist Adrian Lim Chee En who brought the culprit to shame berated him for his indecency of doctoring the poster of six DAP’s potential women candidates while insulting Muslim women by conveying the literal message in Mandarin of “Vote for PH (Pakatan Harapan), PH will take you to Holland (led astray), Gan (f*ck)!”.

“’Ching Kong Lee’ is not a fake account. This person really exists and is a local leader and political activist,” chastised the digital creator known for his progressive advocacy in a Facebook rant.

“A check on the Pontian Municipal Council website found the name ‘Lee Ching Kong’ listed as a Pontian Councillor under the Tanjung Piai constituency. The Pontian Municipal Council website also confirmed that ‘Ching Kong Lee’ is a political appointee under the BN (Barisan Nasional)-MCA party.”

Added the former student activist and founder of the coalition Mahasiswa Ganyang Akta Hasutan (a student movement advocating for the repeal of the Sedition Act 1948):

As a non-Muslim, it’s fine if the wife of ‘Ching Kong Lee’ doesn’t wear a tudung. (headscarf). That’s the right of non-Muslims. Muslims won’t force non-Muslims to wear a tudung with some exceptions such as entering a mosque or as a sign of respect.

It’s inappropriate for “Ching Kong Lee” as a non-Muslim Chinese to belittle and insult Muslims, especially the beliefs, dressing manner and covering of the “aurat” (entire body except face and hands) of Muslim women because that’s their right to wear the hijab as demanded by their religious belief.

Interestingly, Lim who is a lawyer-by-training claimed in his latest FB post that the said social media account of “Ching Kong Lee has vanished”.

Elsewhere, National DAP vice-chairman Syahredzan Johan also vented his disgust at what he described as “absolutely disgusting and vile action by the former Johor local authority councillor from MCA by publishing AI (artificial intelligence)-generated image of Chinese DAP women clad in tudung”.

“Of course, all of this was written in Chinese,” the Bangi MP penned on his Facebook page.

His audience is the Chinese community. This individual wants to portray DAP as ‘selling’ out the Chinese for Malay support. But by doing so, you’ve hurt the feelings of many Muslims.

The hijab is not your political ammunition, a tool to mock your opponents. To many, it’s part of the Muslim identity, an obligation of the faithful.

Are MCA members so desperate for Chinese votes in Johor that they’re willing to stoop this low? – June 20, 2026
