NATIONAL DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming has seemingly shot himself in the foot with a fallacious claim of wanting to be the first minister to resign should UMNO secured a landslide victory in the July 11 Johor state election while linking that to a potential early release of disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Unless he has reliable information or sixth sense that both events would never materialise, he will have to eat humble pie for over-running his mouth.
The safest bet for Nga is course is for his Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition to emerge triumphant but that is a mountain to climb given Johor is a renowned UMNO-Barisan (BN) stronghold.
There is little way for the Hosing and Local Government Minister to mince his words spoken in an Oriental Dailly interview now especially after finding himself snubbed by UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (Tok Mat) who both welcomed and challenged him to do so.
For starters, the BN deputy chairman chided Nga’s arrogance while aptly pointed to the latter’s flawed argument of mixing Federal government matters with state affairs.
“I don’t like to attack individuals. But if he keeps challenging us and says he wants to resign, then go ahead and resign immediately,” Tok Mat told the media during a programme with BN Simpang Jeram candidate Datuk Azman Ismail and Bukit Naning candidate Mohd Ghazali Sabari @ Atan in Bakri yesterday (June 30).
In fact, we’ve been waiting for him to do so. After all, what does the Johor election have to do with DS Najib? They are completely different matters.
One concerns the federal government while the other concerns the state government. If BN wins in Johor, we’ll form the state government. The state government has nothing to do with federal affairs.
So, there’s no need to ‘cakap besar’ (talk big).
Friendly fire between Madani allies
Fortunately for the Teluk Intan MP, Madani key board warriors spared his blushes by allaying an apparent UMNO offensive against DAP as evident from this MalaysiaGazette report on X.
Surprisingly, some commenters thought that that Nga “is more performing “than Tok Mat who is the Foreign Minister.
One even claimed that Tok Mat should be “the one to feel ashamed” by alluding to the Negeri Sembilan political crisis “sparked by UMNO’s gang of 14 withdrawing their support from the unity government yet Tok Mat is still a Federal minister. 😆😆😆”
Another wondered what is the fuss over “the release of a criminal who has looted the country’s and people’s property”.
“When you release Bossku, what do you get? What’s the plan for Bossku? Just so for Bossku to sit chill at home while spending the money he stole?” jibed the netizen at UMNO.
One commenter provided a list of “11 Johor BN 2022 Manifesto” that has yet to be accomplished till today.
Another claimed that the “wind of change has swept that the state with Bangsa Johor all-out to vote for #PakatanHarapan!”
“Bangsa Johor also wants to experience the governance achievements & excellence savoured by #PH states such as Selangor, Negeri Sembilan (N9) & Penang! #RejectUMNO #NO_VOTEBN. For your information, @onnhafiz (Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi) is an UMNO liability!”
One staunch Madani backer attested to “UMNO being UMNO – arrogant and boastful even though it has lost two GEs (general elections)!”
“Bossku’s place is prison! Whoever wants Bossku to be freed, kindly pay the national debt and the court’s fine first,” he jibed. “@tokmatn9 are you done with N9 YT (Yamtuan/state ruler) matters?”
At the end of the day, one commenter likened Tok Mat’s rebuttal at Nga as merely a friendly fire as both Madani ally component parties “are bound to patch up once election is over. 🤡” – July 1, 2026
