Power abuse? Officer slaps drunkard sleeping by the drain and gaslights him

THE life of a homeless vagrant is already terrible as it is. But sometimes, life decides to hurl green, sour apples into your face after a huge serving of lemonades.

This predicament is best exemplified by a recent video on X by netizen @jllmisai.

In the video, a law enforcement officer could be seen standing over a vagrant who was sleeping beside the drain.

Whether he was drunk or just sleeping, no one could tell from the brief video. But what was clear for all to see was that the officer bent down to give him a tight slap.

The show was far from over. The man woke up with a jolt, only for the people around to gaslight him, saying that he fell by himself.

Videos shared on social media often capture only a fragment of an incident, and without a full investigation, it is impossible to determine every detail that took place before or after the recording.

But even if the man was drunk, it does not excuse what appears to be an abuse of authority.

However, check through the comment section and one will be shocked to find out that many ugly Malaysians who approved it.

“Just do it according to the need. As long as there’s no recording, no witnesses and no serious injury,” said netizen @siodelta while @KurangGulaPutih added, “Good job PDRM. Just slap such people.”

Check out this frightening photo comment too:

“Sleeping off a drunken stupor is still better than driving drunk and then crashing into someone else’s kid,” pointed out @fzlbrohhh.

Then there was @ddfdzil claiming the video was merely a product of artificial intelligence.

Perhaps we can say that a civilised society is ultimately judged not by how it treats its most respectable citizens, but by how it treats those who are at their weakest.

What is even more disturbing is the apparent attempt to convince the man that he had fallen on his own.

But of course the brief video merely captures a small part of the scene and the prudent observer should know better than to draw a conclusion from such a modicum of evidence.—July 17, 2026
