MCA has directed its youth wing’s secretary‑general Saw Yee Fung not to participate in the campaign for the Negeri Sembilan state election following her remarks against a Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) deal.
She openly criticised BN’s decision to cooperate with PN in a seat arrangement designed to prevent clashes between the two parties.
Saw is of the view that MCA is a party open to discussions and that she did not agree with the ‘alliance’ between the two groupings based on principles.
She asked many questions to the leadership in a WhatsApp group but received no responses. Until she was told not to participate in the elections.
“However, the only response I have received from the party leadership is to tell me not to go to the state election,” she wrote in a lengthy Facebook post.
She shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from MCA secretary‑general Chong Sin Woon saying “she doesn’t need to come” for the state election.
Disappointed with the directive, the youth leader questioned whether MCA has now become a party that no longer tolerates differing views.
“Since when has MCA become a party that cannot tolerate even one differing voice?
“We have always criticised DAP for suppressing freedom of speech. Could it be that today, because we have changed our stance, we have also changed our thinking? Under the guidance of certain leaders, have we become the very thing we once hated?,” she asked. — July 18, 2026
