The Mat Rempit family that wheelies together, probably shouldn’t

THE internet has once again delivered one of those videos that makes you laugh first, then immediately wonder whether you should be laughing at all.

This time, the star of the show is a Mat Rempit performing what appears to be a perfectly executed wheelie on a public road. Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be particularly remarkable.

Wheelies are almost synonymous with the Mat Rempit subculture. But this rider clearly believed in going the extra mile, or rather, the extra wheel.

Instead of riding alone, he decided to bring the whole family along for the performance.

We recall this famous adage saying, “A family who eats together stays together.” But we are certain the adage doesn’t apply in this video.

His wife was seated behind him, while a young child, believed to be his son, sat in front. To make matters even more alarming, the child wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Most parents spend weekends taking their children to parks, playgrounds or ice cream shops.

This father apparently thought the best way to strengthen family bonds was to introduce his son to the laws of physics at 60km/h.

What makes the video so bizarre is how normal everyone appears. The wife remains seated as though this is just another Tuesday afternoon. The child seems remarkably calm, displaying the kind of trust only young children can have in their parents.

Sadly, gravity is far less trusting. Behind the humour, however, lies a sobering reality.

Motorcycles provide virtually no protection in a crash, and children are especially vulnerable. A simple helmet can mean the difference between walking away from an accident and suffering life-changing injuries.

Riding safely isn’t about looking uncool—it’s about making sure everyone gets home.

Social media may reward outrageous behaviour with views, likes and shares. But hospitals don’t hand out trophies for viral stunts.

Hopefully, the lesson this young boy remembers isn’t how to do a wheelie. It should be why some things are better left as stunts in a Hollywood movie and not as a family activity.—July 22, 2026
