PETALING Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung has hit out at Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – aware or otherwise – for his damning pose with controversial businessman Liow Soon Hee or a.k.a. Nicky Liow who was clad in “a PKR Youth shirt complete with the party logo”.
Coincidence or otherwise, the PKR lawmaker who has seemingly paid a heavy price for his affiliation with the then “Rafizi camp” highlighted that the event which took place on Friday (July 24) at the PJ Civic Hall also saw the acceptance of new members ceremony.
“We all know that Nicky Liow is a figure who is no stranger to various controversies … I congratulate PKR if it’s true that the party has accepted Nicky Liow as its member,” jibed the former Senambu state assemblyman in Pahang on his Facebook page.
“However, PKR has yet to explain to the rakyat why he was accorded such respect till he was ushered to the dining hall for a photo pose with the PH chairman.”
Editor’s Note: Former Batu PKR chief Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi in a reaction on X wondered what has happened to the 26 money laundering charges (AMLA) worth RM36 mil that were brought against the so-called “Gang Nicky” syndicate mastermind in 2022.
“My check found that the last court date at the Shah Alam Sessions Court for his charges was on June 15, 2023,” revealed the lawyer and human rights advocate who resigned from the party on May 20.

I can’t find any news reports online regarding what happened in court on that last court date of June 15, 2023 or any news reports after that until now.
From what I know, Nicky Liow’s brother and his gang members were acquitted by the court following the Attorney-General’s decision to drop the charges against them and accept their representation in 2022.

Wong Chen is “completely speechless”
Lee who already has an axe to grind with PMX over the latter’s rationale over the freeze on of allocation for his parliamentary constituency along with that of his Subang comrade Wong Chen which he described as “not only difficult to accept but also raises more questions” further mocked the PKR president:
Ironically, the PJ Civic Hall which was once the stage for reformist cry and symbol of struggle to oppose the abuse of power has now become a location for such photo to spread.
More so, this happened on the retirement day of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ayob Khan (Mydin Pitchay).
PKR has a responsibility to provide a clear explanation to its members and also to all Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Wong Chen who also suffered the same fate as Lee for his affiliation to the “Rafizi camp” responded to the Centre of Regional Strategic Studies (CROSS) (a think tank) chairman with two-worded feedback “Completely speechless” coupled with media reports of the nature of crime linked to Liow.
Interestingly, PKR has denied that Liow is a party member despite showing up in a party shirt at the said event.
“The results of our review confirmed that Liow Soon Hee @ Nicky Liow is not in the PKR membership records. The review also found that he never submitted an application to become a PKR member,” the party’s secretary-general Dr. Fuziah Salleh pointed out in media statement. – July 27, 2026
