PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has declared that Bersatu is no longer part of PN following the party’s announcement that it intends to establish a new political coalition.
According to Abdul Hadi, Bersatu’s move is in accordance with PN’s constitution, which provides that any member party joining another coalition automatically forfeits its membership in the alliance.
“They have already announced their intention to form another alliance. By doing so, they have automatically left Perikatan,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.
The remarks follow an announcement by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 17, when he revealed that a new coalition would be formed after the Negeri Sembilan state election.
At the time, Muhyiddin said Bersatu would not be alone after the Aug 1 polls.
The Pagoh MP also said a formidable alliance would be established within a year as part of preparations for the next general election.
Muhyiddin further disclosed that Prof P. Ramasamy, the former Penang deputy chief minister and chairman of Urimai, a component of the loose opposition grouping Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR), had indicated his willingness to discuss the proposed collaboration.
When asked whether PN would issue an official statement confirming Bersatu’s departure, Abdul Hadi said such a step was unnecessary.
“There is no need for an official letter. Under the Perikatan constitution, when someone joins another party, they are automatically out,” he said.—Aug 7, 2026
