U MOBILE has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Asia OneHealthcare Group (A1H) to deploy its ULTRA5G In-Building Coverage (IBC) across 15 hospitals nationwide, marking the telecommunications company’s latest expansion into the healthcare sector.
The initial rollout will cover 15 hospitals, including Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) and selected Columbia Asia hospitals.
SJMC has become the first hospital under the partnership to go live with the indoor 5G network, with deployment to be progressively expanded to the remaining participating hospitals.
U Mobile said the collaboration aims to strengthen indoor connectivity as healthcare facilities increasingly rely on digital tools and connected systems to support patient care and daily operations.
Chief Business Officer How Lih Ren said reliable indoor connectivity could make a meaningful difference to hospital operations and user experience.
“As we continue to expand our next-generation 5G network across Malaysia, we believe healthcare is an important sector where reliable indoor connectivity can make a meaningful difference to daily operations and user experience,” he remarked.
“We are excited to collaborate with Asia OneHealthcare to strengthen indoor connectivity across its hospitals while assessing how advanced 5G capabilities can enable innovative healthcare applications that enhance operational efficiency and patient experiences.”
Beyond the network rollout, both organisations will assess how 5G and future 5G-Advanced technologies can support selected healthcare applications, improve workflows and contribute to more connected hospital environments.
Asia OneHealthcare Group Chief Commercial Officer Anwar Anis Ahmad further noted that the partnership would allow the group to explore emerging digital healthcare solutions as the technology matures.
“We continuously evaluate advanced technologies that can drive operational efficiency and enhance patient care,” he added.
“By studying emerging possibilities, including areas such as smart ward systems, we aim to ensure our hospitals are well positioned to adopt suitable digital solutions as technologies and use cases continue to mature.”
The collaboration will also include selected proof-of-concept initiatives through U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP), which brings together enterprises, technology partners, startups, academia and other ecosystem stakeholders to develop solutions using technologies such as 5G-Advanced, artificial intelligence and next-generation digital infrastructure.
