AEON celebrates 42nd anniversary with Japanese cultural experiences, community activities

SUPERMARKET chain AEON Co (M) Bhd is marking its 42nd Anniversary this September and October with a campaign inspired by Japanese culture by bringing together cultural experiences, community activities, retail offerings and initiatives across its AEON MALLs nationwide.

Themed “Community + Experience Japan Culture + Exclusive AEON Member Rewards”, the campaign brings together AEON’s tenants, brand partners and the wider community through a series of activities designed around Japanese culture and the significance of the anniversary.

The campaign features many key activations, ranging from a nationwide Kimono gathering and Japanese cultural experiences to community activities, anniversary promotions and member rewards.

Celebrating Japanese theme

A key highlight will be the Largest Kimono Gathering on Sept 26 with the main gathering taking place at AEON MALL Shah Alam with participation of 27 AEON MALLs nationwide. Customers and members of the community are invited to participate in traditional Japanese attire, including Kimono and Yukata.

The first 600 participants at AEON MALL Shah Alam and first 100 participants at other participating malls who come in Japanese attire will receive a Japanese knit bag and goodies.

Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in lucky draws with prizes sponsored by jewellery partner Poh Kong.

Through the initiative, AEON will also attempt to establish a new record for the “Largest Gathering of People Wearing Japanese Traditional Attire in a Mall”.

The Japanese cultural theme will also be brought to life through Japanese Experiential Booths at AEON MALL Tebrau City from Sept 1-13, AEON MALL Taiping (Sept 8-20) and AEON MALL Shah Alam (Sept 22-Oct 4).

The activities will feature Japanese food and merchandise alongside activities such as Kimono rental, Fish Scooping and Japanese workshops.

A gigantic Daruma Otoshi (a classic Japanese skill toy and game) installation will also be featured at AEON MALL Tebrau City and AEON MALL Shah Alam while Japanese-themed décor featuring Wira & Manja will complement the experience.

Anniversary rewards and activities

As part of its anniversary celebration, AEON MALL will introduce an Anniversary Redemption featuring Japanese-style Wira & Manja plushies.

AEON members spending RM420 or non-AEON members spending RM620 within three same-day receipts from participating tenants and AEON Stores will be eligible for the redemption subject to the campaign terms and conditions.

The anniversary will also feature a Spend & Win Contest where customers spending RM42 at participating tenants or AEON Stores will stand a chance to win 42 pairs of flight tickets to Japan and domestic destinations.

The contest is supported by Batik Air while 1,000 Zootopia luggage pieces will also be offered throughout the campaign. A total of 125 winners will be announced weekly via AEON MALL’s social media channels.

Other activities include the Japanese Sushi Roll Challenge which will be limited to 50 contestants at participating AEON MALLs as well as anniversary promotions offering up to 42% discounts and selected RM42 offers from participating tenants and AEON Retail.

Selected AEON MALLs will also host a 1,000-piece Balloon Drop featuring 42 balloons containing special gifts while a 4.2-km Fun Walk/Fun Run will bring families and the community together through an active anniversary activity.

The anniversary campaign will also feature a collaboration with Atome, including activation booths, mini games and a Scavenger Hunt at AEON MALL Tebrau City, AEON MALL Bukit Indah and AEON MALL Shah Alam on selected weekends.

Atome users who spend RM320 across three transactions at participating tenants can redeem RM20 Watsons cash vouchers with the redemption available across all 27 AEON MALLs and limited to 2,700 customers nationwide.

Selected tenants will also offer Atome users 15% off with a minimum spend of RM100 (capped at RM15) subject to terms and conditions. – Sept 4, 2026
