MAIN Market-listed electronics manufacturing and engineering solutions outfit Cape EMS Bhd has entered into a distribution and strategic collaboration agreement with Helios PV (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd.to commercialise and distribute Malaysian-assembled residential battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
The collaboration through the group’s wholly-owned subsidiary Cape Renewables Sdn Bhd represents another significant step in Cape EMS’ CEB2.0 transformation strategy with advances beyond conventional electronics manufacturing services (EMS) into higher-value system integration, advanced electronics and green energy solutions.
The group has selected Germany as the initial strategic market/gateway for the launch of its residential BESS solutions by establishing a focused entry point before progressively expanding into the wider European Union (EU).
As it is, Germany is one of Europe’s most mature battery storage markets. According to the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), some 2.4 million stationary battery storage systems were operational in Germany at the beginning of 2026 with total installed capacity exceeding 25 gigawatt-hour (GWh).
The vast majority of these storage systems operate alongside photovoltaic (PV) infrastructure, thus demonstrating the increasingly important role of integrated solar generation and energy storage in modern residential energy consumption.
Leveraging Cape EMS’ Senai plant
This provides Cape EMS with a clear strategic entry point into the European residential energy storage value chain.
Under the collaboration, Cape EMS will leverage its manufacturing facility in Senai, Johor, to undertake the complete:
Backed by more than 15 years of experience in solar system integration, Helios will spearhead market development, importation, distribution and first-level customer support.
The partnership combines Cape EMS’ established manufacturing and system integration capabilities with Helios’ commercial channels and market execution experience to capture growing international demand for residential energy storage solutions.
The collaboration is also expected to further optimise Cape EMS’ existing manufacturing infrastructure by progressively positioning its Senai facility as an assembly, integration and export platform for residential energy storage systems serving international markets.
For Cape EMS, the strategic significance of residential BESS extends beyond the introduction of a new product category.
Historically, the group’s core manufacturing activities have focused primarily on producing electronics according to customer specifications.
Through the residential BESS initiative, Cape EMS will participate more broadly across the energy-system value chain, including sourcing, localisation, system integration, assembly, testing and finished-product supply.
Residential energy storage systems are also highly standardised and repeatable, thus providing an attractive volume-oriented manufacturing opportunity that can further enhance the utilisation and efficiency of the group’s Senai production infrastructure.
Comprehensive residential energy storage
The initial product range will cover comprehensive residential energy storage solutions, including (i) battery cabinets; (ii) battery modules; (iii) battery management systems (BMS); (iv) energy management systems (EMS); and (v) associated monitoring software.
These solutions enable households to store electricity generated by rooftop solar systems for use during non-daylight hours, provide backup power and support the increasing energy requirements of modern electrified homes.
As European customers increasingly prioritise supply-chain diversification, product traceability and regulatory compliance, Cape EMS is strategically positioning Malaysia as a credible alternative manufacturing and system integration base for the European market.
This positioning is becoming increasingly relevant as Europe strengthens regulatory frameworks surrounding battery lifecycle accountability.
The expansion into the European residential energy storage market forms an important component of the Cape EMS’s CEB 2.0 transformation strategy.
