A misplaced wheelchair court drama as UiTM Holdings’ ex-head honcho is genuine stroke patient

FOR once perhaps, both creative and cheeky detractors who trolled former UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd CEO Azlizan Fadzil for showing up at the Shah Alam Sessions Court in a wheelchair yesterday (Oct 1) should feel sorry for themselves.

This is because the 52-year-old after who was charged with criminal breach of trust (CBT) for misappropriating RM37.4 mil earmarked for solar power development possesses valid medical report that he had suffered a stroke and is experiencing cognitive impairment as well as neurological and physical impairments.

In fact, his defence counsel Hasshahari Johari Mawi stated that his client’s medical condition has severely affected his brain and bodily functions, leaving him unable to live or function independently

Azlizan pleaded not guilty and claimed trial before Sessions Court judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin for allegedly making payments other than for the specified purpose of investment in a large-scale 50MW solar photovoltaic power generation development in Gambang, Pahang.

The alleged offence took place between February and October 2017. The single charge which is framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term between two to 20 years, whipping and a fine.

A wholly owned investment holding company of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), UiTM Holdings is entrusted to generate wealth and creating commercial investment opportunities for the institute of higher learning.

The court set bail at RM50,000 with two sureties despite deputy public prosecutor Law Chin How having earlier proposed RM100,000 bail, citing the large sum involved, UiTM’s reputation at stake and its high-profile nature which involves leakages of public funds.

However, lawyer Hasshahari requested a lower bail of RM20,000 as Azlizan – due to his medical condition – has no independent income and is fully dependent on his wife who has to also care for seven children aged between 14 and 21 years old who are all still schooling.

DAP plays no part

Out of ignorance and probably due to the slew of so-called high-profiled accusers having previously been wheeled into the courtroom, Azlizan was mocked for feigning immobility to gain public/judge’s sympathy.

A browse at the comment section of the Astro Ulagam Facebook post would display a re-run of mocking of sorts associated with the so-called “court accessory packages”.

Over at Threads, some enterprising netizens have started dreaming about rolling our “wheelchair-for-rent” business in the vicinity of courts as featured above.

“I’ve to start selling wheelchairs in front of the court,” mooted one commenter to a post by Cempaka Helena (_cempakahelena9) on Azlizan being wheeled to the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

The business idea elicited interesting feedback as to how it can be further expanded.

One commenter went as far as suggesting “try putting a snake on his thigh for he’ll definitely stand up automatically and sprint 100 metres”.

On a more serious note, poster Cempaka Helena is seemingly taking a swipe at UMNO over its perceived role of plundering the nation’s wealth.

“This is Azlizan Fadzil.  The former CEO of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd who has been charged with CBT involving RM37.3 mil,” penned the avid Threader.

“He arrived in a wheelchair. UiTM is indeed helmed by Malays.”

Elsewhere, PKR Youth also jibed its political rival:

[SHOCKING]- FORMER UITM HOLDINGS CEO CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL BREACH OF TRUST INVOLVING RM37.37 MIL

Azlizan Fadzil (A Malay) is charged with committing a criminal breach of trust involving RM37.37 mil entrusted for the investment of a 50MW solar project in Gambang, Pahang.

“I love that you (specifically) highlight with “a Malay” so that Malays know the real culprits are the Malays themselves,” applauded one commenter to which PKR Youth pointedly responded:

We really need to highlight and tell the whole world that this corruption is done by Malays. Because the Malay parties are the ones who like to blame DAP for scaring the Malays.” –  Oct 2, 2026
