UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has confirmed that negotiations with PAS to face the Melaka state election (PRN) are currently ongoing, while discussions over the thorny issue of which logo to use are progressing positively.
“Negotiations and discussions with PAS have been and are currently ongoing. Very positive, Alhamdulillah,” he said briefly in a Facebook post on Friday (Oct 2).
Meanwhile, in an earlier comment on Pakatan Harapan’s decision to rule out cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Melaka polls, Asyraf emphasised that BN cannot and will not force any coalition to partner with them.
He also said BN’s doors and stance are open to discussions with other parties and remain unchanged.
In his Facebook post yesterday, Asyraf also shared a link to a news article regarding PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang stating that the party is ready to consider using the BN logo in the Melaka PRN.
Hadi had said that negotiations – including the use of the symbol and cooperation with BN – are still ongoing.
He added that his party is ready to consider whether to use its own symbol or BN’s, depending on the outcome of the negotiations.
The confusion over the logo PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will use in the upcoming polls started after the Registrar of Societies confirmed that all activities of PN were suspended under Subsection 13 (2A) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), effective immediately, following a notice issued on Sept 22. — Oct 3, 2026
