SUSPENDED Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee has stated he is unsurprised by plans for Selangor Bersatu assemblymen to sign a confidence-and-supply-style agreement with the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led state government.
The Beluran MP suggested current party leadership has long sought ties with PH, noting internal dissenters like himself previously kept such moves covert.
Kiandee added that former PKR figures within Bersatu likely facilitated the pact.
“Maybe it has been their intention all this while, and it is just coming out now. The fact is, there are some of us here they don’t like because of differences in our political stance.
“So now it is obvious that, all this while, they have been wanting to associate with PH,” he told FMT when met in Parliament after the tabling of Budget 2027 yesterday (Oct 9).
The agreement, announced by Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari ahead of November’s state budget, comes amid growing rift between Bersatu and its Perikatan Nasional or PN partner, PAS.
The 56-member Selangor assembly comprises 32 representatives from PH, followed by Bersatu (11), PAS (10), Barisan Nasional or BN (2), and one independent.
Meanwhile, PAS’ Pendang MP Awang Hashim said tensions between BN and PH and the planned PH-Bersatu pact were natural, saying it was natural for allies to become opponents, and vice versa.
He also said Bersatu’s potential cooperation with PH in Selangor was a decision made by the party itself, while it is still a PN component.
“This is normal. In politics, friends can become enemies, and tomorrow, enemies may become friends. That is natural in politics.
“It would not be a surprise if Bersatu were to work with PH in Selangor. That is their right, as they have now decided not to be with PN,” the two-term MP said.
However, analysts are of the view that the longstanding relationship between Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Amirudin may help make things easier for a possible Bersatu and PH alliance. — Oct 10, 2026
