Gentari completes 2.79MW solar carpark system at Kerteh’s PECC, supports decarbonisation efforts

CLEAN energy solutions company Gentari Sdn Bhd has completed a five-phase solar carpark system at the PETRONAS East Coast Complex (PECC) in Kerteh, Terengganu with a combined installed capacity of 2.79MW renewable energy across the 56,361m² complex.

Realised through the group’s wholly owned subsidiary Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, the solar carpark system is expected to generate approximately 3.5 million kWh of clean electricity annually, thus reducing approximately 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) emissions each year.

The electricity generated will be used to power PECC’s operations with surplus power channelled to the national grid under Malaysia’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme.

The project is delivered under a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between Gentari and Rantau Properties Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of KLCC (Holdings) Sdn. Bhd and the owner and landlord of PECC.

Under the agreement, Gentari is responsible for developing and operating the solar system, while Rantau Properties hosts the system on-site and purchases the electricity it generates.

“As organisations look to being more cost-competitive while advancing their decarbonisation goals, on-site renewable energy offers a practical pathway that delivers immediate value,” commented Gentari’s Group chief operating officer (COO) and Malaysia country head Shah Yang Razalli.

“This project demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be transformed into productive energy assets that support greater resilience, improve cost predictability and contribute to lower operational emissions.”

Added Shah Yang: “We look forward to helping more organisations accelerating their transition through solutions that are practical, scalable and tailored to their operational needs.”

Initiated in 2024, the project was delivered in partnership with home-grown renewable energy company Gading Kencana Sdn Bhd.

This collaboration reflects Gentari’s continued commitment to work with local industry partners to deliver commercial-scale renewable energy projects while strengthening local capabilities alongside Malaysia’s clean energy value chain.

PECC is PETRONAS’ primary administrative and operational hub which serves as a central base for managing various upstream, downstream and regional energy initiatives across the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

The complex includes office buildings, operational and supporting facilities as well as more than 1,400 carpark bays. – Nov 2, 2026
