Watch Korean-inspired Sang Pewaris, anytime, anywhere with WeTV

IT comes as no surprise that Malaysians are in love with all things Korean, from K-POP bands to bibimbap (Korean mixed rice dish).

Naturally, in this wave of Korean craze, the entertainment industry is no exemption.

So, if you think you’ve watched everything Korean-related for the year, make room for one more series to watch anytime, anywhere – none other than Sang Pewaris!

An adaptation of the novel by Fizziany with inspiration from Korean drama “The Heirs”, the series started airing on Nov 26 on WeTV.

Sang Pewaris follows the story of Megat Amer and Zara Aireena in an aspirational rags to riches plot.

It stars Ben Amir, who plays Megat Amer, with over nine years of experience under his belt and has appeared in Suri Hati Mr Pilot as Dr. Muslim, Chandelier as Kaef, as well as Semusim Rindu as Ihkman.

Aside from that, Sang Pewaris also stars Amyra Rosli, an award-winning performer with nine years of acting experience as well, who kick started her acting journey in Supermak (2011).

Sang Pewaris is produced and directed by Eyra Rahman, who started her career as an assistant director in Intan Asmara back in 2008.

Since 2012, she has directed an impressive fleet of movies and drama series. Some of her works include Bercinta (2013), Sejuta Rasa Buat Adelia (2018) and M4M4 (2020).

Directing this drama was an interesting experience considering that it is a local production inspired by the famous Korean drama and I am proud to have been given the opportunity to work on this project, alongside such a talented cast and crew members, she tells FocusM.

The drama was filmed by Global Station Sdn Bhd, a pivotal homegrown production house that specialises in production and distribution of both fictional and non-fictional television series.

Eyra said although the crew did not face a host of challenges during filming, they did have to comply with the new norm and adhere to strict COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We had to attend daily briefings to ensure that all the casts and crew comply with the SOPs. Sadly, that sucked some of the fun out of the filming process.

“As you know, crew members are very close knit and we enjoy cracking jokes, as well as fooling around. But we had to behave ourselves somewhat.”

Although the cast members hailed from different backgrounds, they all clicked and managed to deliver a top-notch production, she proudly comments, adding that she could not be more satisfied with the outcome.

“I could not be happier with the amazing journey and story of Sang Pewaris. I am also proud of all the achievements and deliverables of each character.

“Each one of them gave their best and was committed throughout the filming. All of the cast members understood their individual characters and ways to deliver because we worked with experienced actresses and actors who knew very well the opportunity presented to them.”

She said this was especially evident in 65-year-old veteran actor Harun Hashim, who gave his utmost commitment and best effort, which set a good example for the rest of the crew.

Eyra added that it was an honour to witness and experience the evolution of movie/drama production, from the big screen to an on-demand streaming platform such as “WeTV”.

“This means great and exciting things are in store for the future of the local entertainment industry. This allows the audience to watch and access content, not just during the initial showtime but anytime and anywhere they want, to catch up on episodes.

“This is especially so for the audience who are watching from different time zones!” – Dec 25, 2020
