GLOBAL technology company Altair signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rolls-Royce Germany to connect artificial intelligence (AI) and engineering to derive business value across Rolls-Royce’s engineering, testing and design of aerospace engines.
The collaboration will address structural analysis and testing to unlock new AI-driven engineering use cases that can be used to drive significant business value.
Some of them include applying data science to engineering testing data, which can lead to a significantly reduced number of sensors needed. In turn, the use case alone has the potential to reduce costs by millions of euros.
“The demand for easy-to-use and flexible AI and machine learning tools has never been greater,” said Altair founder and CEO James R. Scapa.
“As a pioneer of the convergence between data analytics and engineering, it’s a natural fit for Altair to collaborate with Rolls-Royce Germany as it is an organisation that realises the power or technology and the potential of AI to unlock game-changing values,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce Deutschland head of innovation and R&T Peter Wehle said: “This collaboration will enable us to bridge the gap between engineering and data science, empowering our engineers to focus on extracting the benefits of machine learning and AI from our data.” – Jan 21, 2021
