CONSIDERING the fact that the Health Ministry is running out of beds to accommodate the treatment of COVID-19 patients, healthcare provider IHH Healthcare Malaysia is pitching in by allocating about 10% of its bed capacity to the cause.
The 10% includes intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which will span across its network of 16 hospitals such as Gleneagles Hospitals, Pantai Hospitals and Prince Court Medical Centre, among others.
According to IHH Healthcare Malaysia CEO Jean-François Naa, the company had committed to partnering the public healthcare counterparts since the beginning of the outbreak.
“Since we have a plan in place for managing COVID-19 patients, we are now just executing it. Private hospitals are not built to the same scale as public facilities, but we are contributing our part according to each hospital’s capacity and capability,” said Naa.
“Our command centre tackles operational and clinical challenges in managing COVID-19 patients for optimal and timely care,” he added.
Naa also mentioned that IHH Healthcare Malaysia is maintaining close communication with the Health Ministry by collaborating with the ministry’s clinical experts in managing critical COVID-19 patients.
“We stand ready to provide additional assistance as the Government requires, including supporting the administration of vaccines as they become available and to receive decanted non-COVID-19 patients,” he added.
Since early 2020, IHH Healthcare have allocated 200 beds across its network of hospitals to treat non-COVID-19 patients decanted from public hospitals and pledged more than RM24 mil to subsidise the medical treatment of the patients. – Feb 12, 2021
