“SEEK assistance from India to send technical specialists, medical staff, medicine and equipment for temporary periods”.
Such is the call by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as a remedy to address Malaysia’s spiraling COVID-19 cases which spiked to an all-time high of 11,079 cases yesterday (July 13) (today: 11,618 cases).
“If I were in Government, I will ask why India can recover in such a short period of time and what we did wrong in Malaysia until our situation gets worse (by the day),” Najib said in his latest Facebook posting.
“I will ask them which are the most effective treatment methods, which methods are less successful, the best way to cure a patient, what medication is used and so on.”
The ex-premier is looking to India considering that the world’s second most populated country was severely affected by the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus last March-April but managed to swiftly control the spread with various methods, including strict lockdown.
Aside from India, Najib opined that Malaysia should also consider seeking assistance from countries that have successfully battled the health crisis, notably the US and China.
“I will ask for help including the temporary recruitment of health staff who are experienced for a while because our country is in crisis while their situation has improved tremendously,” suggested Najib.
“I don’t think seeking foreign expertise will bring down Malaysia’s dignity given our country is in crisis. This is not about ego but a matter of life and death of our citizens.”
In an earlier FB posting, Najib lamented that the authorities are still in denial by not admitting that the COVID-19 outbreak in Malaysia is getting worse.
“All they want to say is that the rising number of infection is not a real increase in terms of infection but merely an increase in detected positive cases due to a rise in the rate of testing,” Najib pointed out.
“What they don’t realise is that following their logic, do they mean that the number of COVID-19 infections reported by the authorities all along is also lower in actual sense given the number of tests conducted were inadequate?” – July 14, 2021
