‘Nasi ganja’ fever lands on social media

RECENT news that a helicopter picked up 36 packets of ‘nasi ganja’ from Ipoh to deliver to Kuala Lumpur has made its rounds on social media lately, and netizens were not amused.

The owner of the helicopter had reportedly said that the trip and the landing at Padang Ipoh to pick up the popular dish – which got its ‘ganja’ moniker from its apparent addictiveness – was made with the necessary papers in order.

“Who is this datuk and his friends? Are they having a nasi ganja party for 36?” a user wondered on social media.

“Please name the person involved. Why so secretive when it comes to politicians and rich business people? I want to know if it is Tengku Zafrul,” commented another user.

The user was referring to a viral WhatsApp message alleging that the Finance Minister was the one who placed the order after a photo of him eating the mixed rice dish hit social media.

“Since when does Ipoh have a hanger for helicopter maintenance?” another user wondered. “Isn’t all maintenance in Subang? Stop the twist and turn, PDRM. Why isn’t the pilot arrested? Can you seek a remand order? Why the delay?”

“See, only now was the pilot questioned. More interestingly, who is the one who instructed this?” another user chimed in.

Another user then questioned the person who applied for the permit and that the authorities should not hold back on the punishment for those responsible. – July 28, 2021
