Selangor Sultan: Avoid excessive politicking, focus on helping the people instead

SELANGOR ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has reminded all Selangor state assemblymen to not engage in too much politicking and fight for power and positions to the point of forgetting their main responsibility which is to champion the people’s welfare.

His Royal Highness said this when opening the Fourth Meeting of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly today (Aug 23).

“Doesn’t the Honourable members realise that when political leaders fight for power and the political situation becomes unstable, it is the people who have to bear the brunt?

“It seems that the Honourable members did not learn from history about the fall of a country due to power struggles that led to divisions in society,” he said.

According to the Sultan, it was obvious that the assemblymen knew how the people were suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The assemblymen should therefore take note of the problems faced by the people in their respective areas in order to identify the sort of assistance needed to be channelled to them.

His Royal Highness further urged the elected representatives to check on the number of people who have lost their jobs and find ways to help them besides getting data on those who have lost their parents and place of dependence and are facing stress so that such matters could be raised to the state government to determine the form of assistance to be given.

“Find them and help them. Don’t just look for them to get votes during the election time,” he said. – Aug 23, 2021
