FOLLOWING the launch of Parti Kuasa Rakyat, a multiracial political party with an eye on the 15th general election, an UMNO leader has taken to Facebook to ask the Government to approve the application of Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) as a political party.
“There is no reason for the Government to be afraid of former Youth and Sports Minister and MUDA president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman,” said UMNO supreme council member Dr Puad Zarkashi.
MUDA had on Sept 17, 2020 applied to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to be registered as a political party, and the RoS had on Jan 6, 2021 rejected MUDA’s application.
On Feb 4, 2021, MUDA had appealed to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin against RoS’s January rejection but the appeal was denied once again by RoS on Aug 12.
“It would be best to approve both (Parti Kuasa Rakyat and MUDA’s) applications,” Puad said in the same post.
Parti Kuasa Rakyat, or Kuasa, is led by Kamarazaman Yaakob, a former member of the Parti Sosialis Rakyat Malaysia (PSRM) and also the elder brother of Prime Minister Tan Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who vowed to champion the struggles of the common man.
As reported by Free Malaysia Today, Kamaruzaman, who is the party’s pro-tem president, said Kuasa will be open to all ethnic groups and East Malaysians.
He said the party will push for free education, housing and health as well as jobs for the B40 and M40 households.
In addition, Kuasa is also seeking the abolishment of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and replacing it with scholarships for the B40 and M40 groups.
According to Kamarazaman, the party will also give autonomy to its Sabah and Sarawak members.
“They will not only be given the freedom to decide on their leadership at state level but also their representatives at the central level to fill quotas, which include the deputy and vice-president posts,” he said in his speech at the party launch event on Oct 10. – Oct 11, 2021
