“What a joke!” Netizens throw shade at former PM over lawsuit against former AG

FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has filed a civil lawsuit against former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and the Malaysian Government over charges brought against him in criminal cases linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

In the lawsuit filed at the High Court on Oct 22, Najib had alleged that the charges against him were part of a “long planned, premeditated exercise by Thomas” and the then-Pakatan Harapan government.

“As attorney-general he carried out his duties, at least in relation to Najib, as if he were an agent of Pakatan Harapan. In fact, he would later go on to link Najib’s political party UMNO with Najib himself, the Malay race and a drive to Islamisation,” the statement of claim read.

The Pekan MP is claiming for a declaration that Thomas had committed misfeasance in public office, and RM1,941,988 to compensate for the alleged losses that he had suffered so far, general damages, exemplary damages and aggravated damages.

Netizens were, however, unimpressed, and took to social media to air their ‘grievances’.

User @ForABetterMY, for instance, pointed out that suing Thomas does not absolve Najib of his guilt and criminal actions.

More importantly, it does not explain why 1MDB fugitive and alleged mastermind Low Taek Jho (better known as Jho Low) is still in the wind.

“[Najib] is still a convicted criminal who should be going to jail for 12 years if he cannot pay RM200 mil. What about the money he owes to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN)?”

“[Najib’s] SRC case went through due legal process and he was found guilty and sentenced,” user @hamidbari_ concurred.

The user was referring to Najib being found guilty by the High Court on July 28, 2020 of seven charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to RM42 mil belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Similarly, user @malaypolecon agreed that Najib, who had already been handed a guilty verdict, should have been sent to jail.

“Will the country’s legal system continue to allow itself to be mocked and ridiculed by Najib Razak?” the user demanded.

Meanwhile, user @blizzer11 lamented that this is what happens when UMNO is allowed to regain prime minister-ship.

“As usual, they will treat Malaysia like the country belongs to their parents and can do as they see fit. The script is set to become more predictable after this,” the user said sarcastically. – Oct 27, 2021
