FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak mocked Pakatan Harapan for saying that it would enact an anti-party hopping law in Melaka if it wins the state election.
“In the past, they said they will never accept party hoppers and called them traitors. But for the Melaka polls, Pakatan had no issues accepting defectors and called them ‘principled frogs’”.
“Now, Pakatan is saying that it will enact an anti-party hopping law in Melaka should they win the state. Now, everyone is confused including their supporters and voters,” he said, in a Facebook post.
Pakatan’s decision to accept former UMNO state assembly persons Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Datuk Nor Azman Hassan did not go down well among its supporters across the country.
Its ally, DAP itself had issued several statements against accepting party-hoppers. Eventually, PKR decided to allow Idris to contest the Asahan state seat under its banner.
Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), on the other hand, allowed Azman to contest the Pantai Kundor state seat under its flag.
PKR and Amanah’s decision apparently made DAP livid and was seen absent during Pakatan’s candidates unveiling event three days ago.
However, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) political analyst Prof Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani opined that DAP’s “anger” was just a political gimmick and the party would come around if Pakatan wins the Melaka polls.
Earlier today, The Malaysian Insight reported PKR information chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin as saying that Pakatan would enact anti-party hopping law in Melaka should the coalition win the state polls.
On that note, Najib remarked: “I guess Pakatan thinks the people can be fooled again, like what happened in the last general election.” – Nov 9, 2021.
