“Closing KL to protect one man”: Netizens chide the Gov’t for protecting Azam Baki

WITH the police apparently closing down parts of Kuala Lumpur to prevent the Tangkap Azam Baki rally, netizens took to social media to question the authorities’ pro-active move to protect one man accused of malpractises.

“Sebab satu orang boleh tutup satu KL (They are closing down KL for one man). The most powerful man in Malaysia. PM, politicians and enforcement all seems to be subservient to one man holding their dirty laundry,” said user Khairul Nizar.

User Syakironeal added: “Utk benda2 camni waa bukan main laju deploy ‘assets’ (Wow, so fast in deploying assets for this). Time banjir haritu tnggu kene marah baru nak gerak (During flood, they only acted after getting scolded) . What more evidence do you need to see that they dont give a damm about you rakyat? They need to silence you coz they got skeletons to cover la #TangkapAzamBaki.”

Netizen Risi S retorted:

Yesterday, the police announced that they have obtained a court order to prevent the Tangkap Azam Baki rally from being organised today at Dataran Merdeka, Sogo and Masjid Jamek.

With that, Dang Wangi district police headquarters chief Noor Dellhan Yahya said that Jalan Kuching, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Imbi, and Jalan Sultan Ismail roads will be diverted to prevent the rally from taking place.

“The court order takes effect for seven days starting tomorrow and about 1,000 police officers will be deployed to enforce it,” Dellhan was reported saying yesterday.

Blatant double standards

On that note, user MUDA Damansara said that the authorities’ proactive move to ban the rally only laid bare the Government’s double standards for everyone to see.

Netizen Elill summed up the start of 2021 saying: “21 days into 2022: Minister claims orang utan kill people, KL shutdown to stop #TangkapAzamBaki gathering, BAM suspends Lee Zii Jia for 2 years, Doctors selling fake vaxx cert and Ismail Sabri remains as PM.” – Jan 22, 2022
