PAS: We must include the minorities in political cooperation

ANY cooperation among Malay-Muslims political parties must also include other races in order to achieve harmony in Malaysia, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.

“Any political cooperation must not be exclusive to a certain race alone,” he was reported as saying by Harakah Daily.

On Jan 3, Astro Awani reported former UMNO secretary general Tan Sri Annuar Musa as saying that the Government should hold a meeting between Malay political parties and bumiputera non-governmental organisations (NGO) before the 15th General Election.

The Ketereh MP added that the meeting was vital so as to decide their course of direction.

“In my view, a divided group can never attain victory unless they work in a pact or coalition,” the Communications and Multimedia minister was reported as saying.

It is to note that after UMNO and PAS signed the Muafakat Nasional (MN) charter in September 2019, then-prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched the Malay Dignity Congress the following month to counter the two parties.

Malay Dignity Congress 2.0?

While the congress itself was marred with controversy as incendiary comments were made against minority groups, it also became the catalyst for Pakatan Harapan’s ouster from Putrajaya and Mahathir getting booted out from the premiership.

On that note Tuan Ibrahim lauded Annuar’s suggestion as it was in line with MN’s and Perikatan Nasional’s foundation.

“But some UMNO leaders say MN no longer exists, especially those in Johor and Kelantan. In fact, Kelantan UMNO even broke ties with PAS, which was against their own general assembly resolution,” he remarked. – Feb 5, 2022
