Revenue partners UnionPay to offer China-bound Malaysians health declaration cert

CASHLESS payment solutions provider Revenue Group Bhd has teamed up with UnionPay International to provide health declaration certificate (HDC) application for Malaysians travelling to China via its recently launched super app – wanna App.

HDC is a health code that specifies an individual’s health and vaccination status. The health code application becomes compulsory in China due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, all foreigners must submit their applications for HDC through China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry before they are allowed to enter the country.

wanna App is a multi-feature mobile app with social messaging chat (wannaTalk), e-wallet service (wannaPay) and a food delivery service with several restaurants (wannaFood).

It also has added bill payment, telco top-up and retail marketplace (I wanna) that allow users to have a better experience and artificial chatbot (Tao) feature to their list of services.

Through the partnership, the super app will also include UnionPay virtual prepaid card as a payment offering in the near future in addition to what wannaPay offers now.

The UnionPay virtual prepaid card will allow users to pay at over 100,000 merchant terminals in Malaysia and at more than 31 million global merchants who accept UnionPay quick response (QR) code.

Revenue Group’s managing director and group CEO Datuk Eddie Ng Chee Siong expects a strong take-up for the wanna App.

“wanna App will be the first and only super app in Malaysia that enables users to apply for HDC once it is roll-out,” he justified. “We target to have one million users within a year. We expect the take-up to be positive as 78.7% of our population are fully vaccinated and more travel borders may open up this year.”

UnionPay International country general manager (Malaysia and Brunei) David Chong said the wanna App further reinforces the company’s partnership with Revenue Group which dates back to 2011.

“UnionPay takes a win-win approach towards partnership. This latest initiative to include a HDC and a UnionPay virtual card in the wanna App will provide convenience and a seamless payment experience for our Malaysian customers,” he noted.

“UnionPay has been at the forefront to deploy QR code for payment at merchants in Malaysia and worldwide. Once international travel normalises, Malaysian residents will be able to scan QR code for payment at their favourite travel destinations like Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the UK and more.”

At 11.04am, Revenue Group as down 3 sen or 1.86% to RM1.58 with 940,200 shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM737 mil. – Feb 22, 2022
