THE Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) should be removed from Home Ministry’s purview and made an independent body, said Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot).
“Perhaps the right approach is to ensure that the commission is deemed independent and made answerable to a parliamentary committee.
“It cannot be under the dictates of any politician who serves as a presiding minister of the police force.
“This could be the way forward in restoring the image of the police force, motivate those loyal and dedicated officers who are still serving and instil the sense of pride to those who are already retired,” its deputy president Zulkifli Mohamed said, in a statement.
Yesterday, EAIC chairman Tan Sri Sidek Hassan criticised former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador over claims of “cops’ cartel” in the force, adding the latter had lost his right to comment on the matter.
He stated it was because Hamid had failed to submit any evidence to support his claim or name officers allegedly involved in the cartel.
“He also admitted that as IGP, he never raised the issue in meetings involving directors of Bukit Aman’s various departments,” Free Malaysia Today reported Sidek as saying.
Recently, Hamid expressed disappointment after EAIC said it could not find any proof on the existence of a “cartel” in the police force.
Touching on the issue. Zulkifli questioned EAIC findings and as former senior-ranking police officer, he found it hard to believe the commission’s statement.
“It’s hard to believe the recent statement made by EAIC, which declared there was no evidence of a ‘cop cartel’ existing in the police force.
“The reputation of the police force is vulnerable now and since the matter is of public interest, Patriot demands transparency, accountability and nothing less than the truth,” he remarked. – March 1, 2022.
