IN light of the brouhaha pertaining to AirAsia’s fine print in its airfare pricing, medium haul budget carrier AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) deserves a pat on the back for publishing “what you see is exactly what you pay” advertisements for its latest two new services to Incheon (Seoul) and New Delhi, commencing April 20.
According to the airlines’ latest media release, fares from Kuala Lumpur to Incheon (Seoul) start from RM659 on economy seats or guests can choose to experience its premium flatbed from RM2,199 all-in one way.
FocusM has been made to understand that the fees include airport tax, Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) fee, and other applicable fees but does not take into account check-in baggage fees and in-flight meal.
From Incheon (Seoul) to Kuala Lumpur, fares start from 246,500 won (about RM853) and 799,500 won (about RM2,767) for premium flatbed all-in one way. Guests travelling to Incheon (Seoul) will also enjoy an extra 7kg hand carry for free.
Meanwhile, fares from Kuala Lumpur to New Delhi start from RM484 on economy or guests can choose to experience the premium flatbed from RM1,699 all-in one-way.
From New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur, fares start from 8,389 rupee (about RM467) on economy and 24,225 rupee (about RM1,350) for premium flatbed all-in one way.
The new services to South Korea and India can be booked through the ‘Flights’ icon on the airasia Super App or via the website starting today (April 6) until April 24.
Flights to Incheon (Seoul) will initially be operated weekly on Wednesdays and returning on Thursdays while flights to New Delhi will resume twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays and returning on the same days.
Both services are on sale now for travel between April 20 and June 30 June with additional services to be added in the near future.
Although it is understood that AirAsia X will update the flight schedule beyond June closer to the date, the very fact that passengers get to travel immediately will prevent the likelihood of unforeseeable flight cancellation further into the future (ie. should lockdown measures be re-imposed to counter a spike in COVID-19).
On the bright side, the latest promotion also spells opportunity for passengers with outstanding bookings or unused credit stemming from flight cancellations during the pandemic to utilise their credit account to book the flights.
“We continue to prioritise putting our guests first and while we were unable to fly for the past two years due to the unprecedented effects of the pandemic, we are pleased to confirm that anyone with outstanding bookings or credit accounts can now use them to book our new services,” AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail pointed out.
“We are also preparing travel vouchers for our guests who have unutilised credit to use for future bookings which will be announced in the near future.”
Prior to promoting its latest two new services to Incheon, AirAsia X had resumed its commercial service post pandemic between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney commencing Feb 14.
During the campaign from Feb 14 to March 22, the airline said it would prioritise full redemptions for its passengers affected by its restructuring exercise, ie. the potential passengers might reinstate their flight booking and utilise their credit account to book the flights.
Back then, the all-inclusive fare of check-in baggage, one meal and one drink started from RM1,399 one way on economy class or from RM3,999 for premium flatbed. From Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, fares start from A$399 (approx. RM1,275) and A$1,299 (approx.RM4,153) one way all-inclusive respectively. – April 6, 2022
