A case of putting the cart before the horse: Sanusi claims MACC has yet to probe him

DESCRIBING the intention as an “evil narrative”, caretaker Kedah menteri besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has hit out at several news reports which gave the impression that he has come under interrogation of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“The news reports of ‘Sanusi being investigated by the MACC’ and its hype have preceded the process. So far, no MACC officials have come to see or call me to investigate the REE (rare earth element) case. There is none,” he penned on his Facebook page.

“But news of such nature has been spreading for the past two to three days … doesn’t this development seem strange and awkward? Want to seek the truth and uphold the law or want to damage the image?”

Added the PAS warlord and PerIkatan Nasional’s (PN) election director: “I think their real purpose is to damage (my) credibility while seeking to derive advantage or capital for the upcoming six state polls. It doesn’t matter right or wrong. Is this a Madani or Madanon (Anwar’s own government)?”

For the record, the controversial Kedah MB had pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Courts in Selangor yesterday (July 18) after being charged with two counts of sedition against Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The courts have fixed Oct 4 for mention of both charges framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same law which provides a maximum fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years or both if convicted.

In a related development, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has also lambasted the “Madanon” government for its increasing eagerness to use legal instruments to pressure its political opponents.

“This is completely contrary to the promises of reform that they chanted in the past, including to abolish the Sedition Act. This is their real face for the people to see,” he penned on his Facebook page.

“I would like to emphasise that among the main policies and principles of PN’s struggle is to uphold, preserve and defend the sovereignty and glory of the Malay monarchs as constitutional monarchs. This principle will continue to be defended.”

Added the Bersatu president: “In upholding this spirit, I also pray that my friend DS Sanusi gets justice in court. I also invite everyone to pray together for his safety and to remain calm.” – July 19, 2023
