A sense of nostalgia

Four Points by Sheraton

Four Points by Sheraton makes another breakthrough in Malaysia with its new hotel, which captures the essence of Chinatown.

Guests who enter this new Chinatown hotel will be immediately transported to a bygone golden era. “We hope that guests who walk through our doors take a piece of the neighborhood back with them and appreciate a design that is bold, original and rich in character”, said Datuk  Choy Wai Hin, hotel owner and Managing Director of MASTERON Group of Companies.

He’s talking about Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown (which is the third Four Points by Sheraton property to open in the country).

Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the hotel offers easy access to the rest of the city along with an immersive cultural experience of the neighbourhood. Whether travellers are visiting for work or leisure, the hotel aims to cater to the needs of today’s every day traveller with its approachable design, stylish comfort and all the brand’s popular extras.

The hotel is driven by the vision and passion of Federal International Holdings Berhad, a notable developer and interior fit-out company in the country.

“We are excited to be part of this venture with Marriott International and have taken great care in the execution of our first collaboration project. Efforts, in all details, have been consciously made to capture the essence of Chinatown, its trade and livelihood of the days gone by,” enthused Choy.

Although the hospitality industry in Malaysia is challenging, he is invigorated by its potential, already planning more hotels in the near future. “I’ve spent most of my life outfitting beautiful furniture for others, so the hospitality industry was a natural extension for us. When I was in position to build my own hotel, I knew what to do and what not to do,” explained Choy.

The arrival Lobby is adorned with a vertical garden that is designed to welcome guests with a peaceful, calm and refreshing ambience. The exposed walls of burnt brick, decorative floor to ceiling metal lattice work, warm wood and traditional tiles with hues of jade is what meets the guest, providing an immediate sense of space, of the rustic neighborhood, before proceeding to a separate check-in lobby. Located on the seventh floor, the lobby features dramatic bay windows that mesmerise with the play of light and sweeping city views.

Reflecting the brand’s promise to provide for today’s independent travelers, the hotel features 318 well-appointed, contemporary and spacious rooms boasting spectacular views overlooking the expanse of Chinatown and the city of Kuala Lumpur, including 18 suites and 76 inter-connecting rooms designed to suit the needs of families and large groups.

Each room features customized wall art by Malaysian artists Loka Made that beautifully portrays the stories of the livelihood, craft and trade of the neighborhood community, creating a sense of nostalgia.

The hotel also offers the brand’s defining touches including complimentary bottled water in all rooms, fast and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.

The hotel offers two dining venues, and a bar that serves up handcrafted cocktails, and a vast selection of cold brews. Lady Yi’s Tea House, a vibrant lobby lounge offers panoramic views of the city and turns up the nostalgia while letting diners discover the taste of the Straits with a delightful Peranakan Afternoon Tea, jazzed up with cocktails and music.

Quan’s Kitchen, the hotel’s all-day dining features traditional culinary specialties from Chinatown and Western favorites in an open theatrical kitchen that is sure to delight. Jann, the chinoiserie styled bar is the ideal after-hours destination that offers inventive cocktails dedicated to the traditional trades of the local neighborhood.

It also caters to the needs of business travelers offering 2,626sqft of meeting spaces equipped with the latest technology and a dedicated events team tasked to deliver seamless business experiences.

Other facilities at the hotel include a state-of-the-art fitness center and an outdoor splash pool, both located on the seventh floor where guests can recharge or unwind.

Abhimanyu Singh, General Manager of the Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown commented: “We are thrilled to open one of the only international branded hotels within Chinatown.

“We look forward to welcoming our guests to experience the community’s revival through, honest cross-cultural food and beverage traditions, locally inspired design, and adventures within and beyond the hotel.”

According to Abhimanyu, guests can immerse in the design that takes its inspiration from the Chinese history of migration from the Klang river to the country for mining activities by way of water transportation. “When I first came here seven months ago, we came up with the ‘revival of Chinatown’ idea, which is the correct way of bringing up this hotel.”

For Rivero Delgado, Area Vice President of Marriott International, she feels that the hotel’s location is a definite advantage.

“Designed with the international traveler in mind, the hotel will cater to both leisure and business travelers alike, offering the brand’s stylish comfort and genuine service at an honest value,” said Rivero, who oversees Marriott’s expansion plans and also in growing the Four Points brands globally.

Located within one of the most popular tourist destinations and fast-growing micro markets in Malaysia, Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown is indeed a sleek addition to the neighborhood.

With its contemporary design, seamlessly woven together with Eastern elements, largely influenced by the intriguing and bustling surrounding area and unique, exposed brick architecture, this modern hotel towers high above an area deeply immersed in oriental culture, heritage and history.
