Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik set to clash with defending champions in all-England doubles final

DOUBLE shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will face defending champions Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto of Indonesia in the All-England final.

This is the second time the pair has reached the All-England final after the former world champions Aaron-Wooi Yik showed their class to beat Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan of Taiwan 21-16, 21-15 in a 39-minute semi-final match.

The Malaysians capitalised on mistakes from the Taiwanese to bag a straight-set win yesterday.

The All-England tournament is the world’s oldest badminton tournament, held at the Utilita Arena Birmingham.

The pair reached the final of the 2019 edition but lost to veterans Hendra Setiawan-Mohamad Ahsan 21-11, 14-21 and 12-21.

On the other hand, the Indonesian pair Fajar-Rian ditched Takuro Hoki-Yugo Koyabashi of Japan with a superb 21-18, 21-18 win.

Malaysia is now on a seventeen-year wait, as we have not won the All-England men’s doubles title since Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong’s success in the 2007 edition. – March 17, 2024
