SINGER, actor, and host Alif Satar, 34, took a stance against the sexual grooming of children online emphasizing that all Muslims must oppose such behaviors by some.
As a father, he feels protective and worries about social media’s potential dangers.
Alif educates his children on who can touch them and what to do if someone does. He believes parents should openly discuss these issues with their children.
To prevent this, he highlighted the importance of adhering to Islamic teachings and setting rules for gadget use.
“Behind the virtual world, we don’t know their face or age. I think sexual education is very important for children,” he said.
“But wrong is still wrong. As a father, I do feel very protective about this matter. I’m worried about the current situation where even children’s social media has applications that can connect them to others,” he reportedly said.
Recently, we had the GISB case. Linked to the banned Al-Arqam sect it is now at the center of Malaysia’s worst child sex abuse scandal.
Police raids led to arrests and the rescue of over 500 children from GISB care homes. Authorities believe many children suffered sexual and physical abuse.
On top of that, there was the recent case of the viral “Abang Bas” case that has also caught the attention of social media users.
The driver received support from a segment of netizens but was condemned by many for the most part. Many are vehemently against such peculiar behaviors towards minors.
Meanwhile, netizens are also discussing the ramifications of child grooming, where students with good potential would not finish their SPM exams as they’re married to someone significantly older.
With key individuals like Alif Satar showing their concerns and opposition towards such behavior, this will hopefully influence others to think critically about how to prevent online grooming. – Sept 29, 2024
