AEON Retail to offer 28-day rental waiver for non-essential business tenants

AEON Retail, which consists of AEON Co (M) Bhd and AEON BiG (M) Sdn Bhd, will be offering a 28-day rental waiver for the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to tenants with non-essential businesses that are unable to operate at their premises.

This will cover the period from March 18 to April 14, is subject to terms and conditions, and is on a case-by-case basis. The waiver of rental will be given throughout all 28 AEON Malls and 18 AEON BiG Mall Hypermarkets nationwide.

“We thank our partners and retailers for their valuable support during these trying times and we understand their predicament. We express our support as we help ease their financial burden by offering them a waiver of rental during the first and second MCO period,” said Shafie Shamsuddin, CEO of AEON Retail Malaysia.

AEON Retail has also promised to ensure sufficient stock at all of its stores nationwide as the country moves into the second phase of the MCO.

Shafie added that the group is grateful to its business partners and suppliers for continuously ensuring uninterrupted deliveries, and urged customers to not engage in panic buying throughout this period, as stock is constantly replenished.

Social distancing measures are also being practised, with staff members stationed throughout the mall to ensure customers are maintaining a distance. A limit was also placed on the number of shoppers able to access the store at any one time. Public areas are sanitised, along with common contact areas such as the cashier counter, the shelves, trolleys, and other facilities. – April 1, 2020
