After 7 years, Star Media Group bids farewell to chairman Fu

STAR Media Group Bhd has announced the resignation of its independent and non-executive chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow @ Oh (Fu) Soon Guan with effect from today (Mar 1).

Fu, 72, has tendered his letter of resignation at the company’s board meeting on Feb 25, according to a statement by the company.

“Datuk Fu said it is time to give way to new leadership, adding that he wished to spend more time with his family,” Star Media Group pointed out in a statement.

Apart from the Star Media Group, Fu is also a director and chairman of Tiong Nam Logistics Holdings Bhd and Fitters Diversified Bhd.

The former Mentakab and Kuantan MP was appointed to the Star Media Group board on Feb 27, 2014 prior to being elected chairman on May 21, 2014.

Fu, who had also served as the Deputy Minister of Internal Security, opined that after the latest restructuring exercise, the Star Media Group now has a capable, united, dedicated and young top management team.

With the appointment of the new group CEO Alex Yeow Wai Siaw to lead the team, he further expressed confidence that the transformation programmes would eventually bear fruit and propel the group to new heights.

“The board expressed its utmost gratitude to Fu for his tremendous contribution and stewardship to the group,” noted the statement.

“It will make the necessary effort to identify a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.”

At the close of this morning’s trading, Star Media Group was down 1 sen or 2.82% to 34.5 sen with 1.02 million shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM255 mil. – Mar 1, 2021
