FOREIGN investors remained net buyers for the third consecutive week on Bursa Malaysia with a meteoric rise in net inflow to RM964.33 mil for the week ended Aug 27.
As the market reopened last Monday (Aug 23), foreign investors were net buyers amounting to RM6.70 mil with local institutions purchasing RM19.16 mil net of local equities while retailers turned net sellers to the tune of -RM25.86 mil.
“Foreign investors were net buyers for everyday of the week,” observed MIDF Research in its weekly fund flow report.
Their largest foreign inflow was recorded on Thursday (Aug 26) with the smallest inflow on Monday (Aug 23) to the tune of RM310.79 mil and RM6.70 mil respectively.
Meanwhile, retailers were net sellers for everyday of the week except on Monday (Aug 23). Their largest net selling was on Tuesday (Aug 24) while their smallest net selling was on Friday (Aug 27) to the tune of -RM48.43 mil and -RM16.88 mil respectively.
During the course of the week, retailers cumulatively net sold -RM113.96 mil worth of equities on the local bourse.
On the other hand, local institutions recorded cumulative weekly net selling amounting to -RM850.37 mil.
They were net sellers for everyday of the week with largest net selling on Thursday (Aug 26) to the tune of -RM290.41 mil.
Since the beginning of 2021, retailers have cumulatively been the only net buyers on Bursa Malaysia to the tune of RM9.46 bil. Both local institutions and foreign investors were net sellers amounting to -RM4.46 bil and -RM5 bil respectively.
In terms of participation, retail investors, local institutions and the foreign investors recorded a weekly movement of -3.82%, 9.89% and 16.82% respectively in average daily trade value (ADTV).
In comparison with another three Southeast Asian markets tracked by MIDF Research last week, all four markets posted net inflow with Thailand leading the pack with US$408.86 mil followed by Malaysia (US$229.61 mil), Indonesia (US$66.81 mil) and the Philippines (US$40.77 mil).
The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow last week were Top Glove Corp Bhd (RM3.69 mil), IHH Healthcare Bhd (RM3.62 mil) and Gamuda Bhd (RM3.25 mil). – Aug 30, 2021
