After Puspakom, Twitter users want the government to end ‘tech’ monopolies

SEVERAL monopolies are falling apart since the government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took power, and yesterday (March 24) it was PUSPAKOM’s (Pusat Pemeriksaan Kenderaan Berkomputer) turn to fall.

However, Twitter users are asking for more. They want the government to end what they call the tech monopolies, citing the grip of Telekom Malaysia (TM) on the internet, the Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) on the 5G roll-out and even Astro as the digital television provider.

User @KipasSusahMati_ replying to @FaktaBukanAuta said:

Translated from Malay, the user is saying. Well done Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook for breaking the (Puspakom) monopoly to allow for healthy competition.

The user also said it is hoped the Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil will also take the same steps in breaking the monopolies of companies related to media and technology, such as Astro, TM and DNB.

“There needs to be healthy competition to maintain performance and competitiveness,” he added.

Another user @yenkunang is asking for more monopolies to fall.

In English, he said, “Monopolies are not just TNG (Touch N Go) and Puspakom….other monopolies also have to be abolished in terms of the ‘egg’ monopoly. Vegetable Monopoly. Fish monopoly. Chicken Monopoly. Another ‘basic price’ (perhaps meaning items) monopoly. Housing monopoly. Educational monopoly. Monopoly is more and more…”

The user appears to believe that everything in Malaysia is monopolised and that it should end.

Meanwhile, user @S_4kali is another user who supports the initiative to break all monopolies.

The user pointed out that all monopolies must be abolished so that there is healthy competition and consumers have choices. and the user advised the authorities not to forget cartels.

“Don’t forget CARTELS also need to be eliminated altogether.” — March 25, 2023
