After the Johor by-election, all eyes are on Pahang’s by-election

THE dust has barely settled on the by-elections in Pulai and Simpang Jeram and now all eyes are focused on the by-election in Pelangai, Pahang.Barisan Nasional (BN) Pahang has listed six potential names that are said to be of high calibre and authoritative. They are to be considered as candidates for the Pelangai state legislative assembly (DUN) by-election.The list of names has been submitted to UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for discussion and decision, according to local news portals.Among the names on the list is Bentong Division UMNO committee member Datuk Jamaludin Buyong, 60, who was born in Bentong and is the former TRIplc Bhd acting managing director. The Pelangai DUN by-election was triggered by the tragic death of the incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Harun on Aug 17. He was one of the victims in the Elmina plane crash.Meanwhile, DAP leader Anthony Loke Siew Fook  stated that the party will deploy its entire machinery to help the combined victory of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN in the by-election of the Pelangai DUN, in Bentong, Pahang on Oct 7.The Transport Minister said that the commitment was based on shared spirit, in addition to reciprocating the same commitment shown by the BN machinery that helped PH candidates win in two by-elections in Johor yesterday (Sept 9).“This victory (Pulai parliamentary by-election and Simpang Jeram in Johor) is an injection of confidence in the unity government and of course, we will bring this spirit to the Pelangai DUN by-election later.“We see the seriousness of the machinery in Johor to win the PH candidate. It is a formula for success, and of course when it comes to the Pelangai state assembly later, it will be PH’s turn to campaign for the UMNO and BN candidates.” – Sept 10, 2023
