THE Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has dismissed representations from Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor seeking to quash two sedition charges against him, as confirmed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Masri Daud during a session at the Shah Alam High Court, according to Berita Harian.
Sanusi, who serves as the Perikatan Nasional election director and the Kedah Menteri Besar, pleaded not guilty when the case was transferred from the Selayang Sessions Court to the Shah Alam High Court on Feb 1.
The charges stem from remarks Sanusi made concerning the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the formation of the unity government during a political talk. The alleged offence took place at Simpang 4 in Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm on July 11, 2023.
Sanusi faces charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which are punishable under Section 4(1) of the same act. If convicted, he could be fined RM5,000, sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison, or both.
The trial is scheduled to commence on July 22 and continue until Aug 13. – May 17, 2024
