AGM Watch: Of RHB Bank’s financial relief for impacted borrowers

AS calls for another round of loan moratorium loom, it is timely for the Minority Shareholders Watch Group (MSWG) to enquire from RHB Bank Bhd at its forthcoming annual general meeting (AGM) on how many of the affected borrowers who received its payment assistance have resumed their repayment.

As of end-March 2021, the bank had provided RM16.5 mil in payment assistance to 180,984 individuals and RM4.9 bil to 1,732 SME customers.

“What is the size of loan that is still under extended relief measures after the expiry of the six-month automatic loan moratorium which ended on Sept 31 last year?” asked the shareholder activism group.

“Has the bank seen improvement in the collection of loans from borrowers under the extended relief measures?”

In the same light, MSWG also wanted to know if there is an increased default risk for the loans involved in the transfer of physical assets (TPA) as well as if there is a need for provisions for those loans.

RHB Bank will stage its 55th AGM virtually from its head office in RHB Centre on May 25 (Tuesday) at 10am.

Interestingly, MSWG is also seeking an update from Duopharma Biotech Bhd with regard to its agreement with the Health Ministry (MOH) on the supply of Russian COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik-V.

“What is the current status of the project to supply the Malaysian Government with the Russian Sputnik vaccine?” asked the shareholder activism group. “What is the projected contribution to Duopharma’s revenue if this project materialises?”

For the record, Duopharma has executed term sheets with the Government and the Russian Direct Investment Fund which is the marketing agent for the vaccine to execute a definitive supply agreement, hence contributing to the national vaccination programme in 2021.

Duopharma will stage its 20th AGM virtually from the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on May 28 (Friday) at 9am.

Elsewhere, MSWG is also enquiring from Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd if the group has adequate know-how to venture into the healthcare services industry.

This comes about as 2021 marks the year when the regional integrated water, wastewater, and environmental solutions provider successfully ventured into the healthcare and healthcare services industry since its inception in 1997.

“Is the group facing any operational difficulties? If so, what is the group’s strategy to manage these difficulties?” asked the shareholder activism group. “Is there any potential to grow the segment further? If so, what is the potential?”

Puncak Niaga will stage its 24th AGM virtually from its head office in Wisma Rozali, Shah Alam on May 25 (Tuesday) at 10am. – May 21, 2021
