WITH de facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan seemingly downplaying Istana Negara’s role in lifting the Emergency, netizens slammed the PAS leader for allegedly undermining the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s constitutional role.
“Kalau ini datang bukan dari politisyen Melayu-Isle, minggu depan menteri ni paling depan berarak usung keranda jerit “derhaka kepada Raja”
COVID tak COVID ha3 Akan ada dalil sekali keluar dari Marang ha3,” PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli said on Twitter.
(If a non- Malay or non-Muslim politician had said this, this minister will be the first person to launch a demonstration, lifting a coffin and accuse the person of being treasonous to the monarch. COVID-19 or not, the guy from Marang {PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang} will issue an edict).
Yesterday, Takiyuddin said that the decision to retain Malaysia under the state of Emergency did not lie solely in the hands of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah and it would be the Cabinet who would advise the monarch on the matter.
He defended his views by saying that Agong had proclaimed the Emergency on Jan 11, after being advised by the Cabinet which was in line with the provisions of the Federal Constitution.
“It was on the basis of primary responsibility and specifically on the Government in overcoming the pandemic to ensure the interests and safety of the people in this country will continue to be safeguarded.
“Therefore, the question on whether the Emergency will end on Aug 1 or not, at the discretion of the Agong, should not arise,” the Kota Bharu MP added.
Shifting goal posts
However, Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Azalina Othman Said lashed out saying that an Independent Special Committee has been established under Section 2(1) of the Emergency Ordinance 2021 to advise the monarch on when to end the Emergency.
“If that’s the case (that the Cabinet will advise the Agong), what’s the point of forming an Independent Special Committee to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Section 2(1) of the EO.
“Stop shifting the goalposts!” she said in a tweet.
Netizens joined the chorus of criticism against Takiyuddin for his statement, accusing PAS of undermining the monarchy.
“Ni mana puak2 yg bising psl adab? X nak kata pulak psl derhaka?” said user AfiqAlisa.
(Where are those people making noise about being polite? Why not talk about treachery too?)
User Faris Ramli said: “Bila dapat darurat, Khabor “Ni atas kebijaksanaan YDPA!”. Bila dah nak habis “Ouwh, bukan YDPA je yang boleh putuskan”.
(When the Agong consented to the Emergency, they praised His Majesty’s wisdom. When it comes to ending it, they say Agong alone cannot decide on it)
User Michael Soh mocked Takiyuddin saying: “He must be cooking Maggie Mee together with the rest of the Maggie Mee Menteri (Ministers)….. jointly and severely liable for cooking Emergency Maggie Mee.” – June 13, 2021.
