Agong lauds the political stability brought by MoU, calls it political maturity

THE Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ria’yatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah praised the stability brought to the Government, following the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Opposition.

In his speech at the Dewan Rakyat today, His Majesty urged for both sides of the political divide to continue working together so as to propel Malaysia forward.

“I’m pleased with the political stability now, which was due to the MoU signed by both parties. We should be using this time to develop Malaysia and propel our country to the future,” the monarch said.

His Majesty stated that due to the cooperation between both sides of the political divide, the Government had managed to amend the Federal Constitution in order to restore Sarawak and Sabah’s status as equal partners to Peninsula Malaysia in December last year.

“It was a historic moment for all Malaysians. This is the political maturity yearned by my subjects throughout the country.

“Hence, I urge all elected representatives to remain steadfast in this cooperation so as to protect our political stability,” Sultan Abdullah decreed.

Meanwhile, the monarch urged the Government to tread carefully when it comes to declaring COVID-19 from being a pandemic to endemic.

Though His Majesty lauded Malaysia’s success in vaccinating most of the population, with Malaysia ranking number 13 out of 122 countries in the Nikkei Asia’s COVID-19 recovery index and the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme by successfully inoculating 98% of the adult population, Sultan Abdullah urged his subjects not to let their guard down.

“To maintain immunity at the best level against the threats of new variants, I urge my subjects to get the booster shots.

“Even though we are more prepared to enter the endemic phase, I hope that the transition will be implemented carefully,” His Majesty remarked. – Feb 28, 2022
