Ahmad Samsuri denies involvement in “Bangkok Move”

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar a.k.a Dr Sam has categorically denied involvement in the alleged “Bangkok Move”.

His rebuttal follows reports claiming he joined PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan in a secretive December meeting with UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

While Zahid confirmed meeting Hamzah to discuss a “grand collaboration” for Malay-Muslim unity, Samsuri dismissed any personal connection to these discussions, labelling them pure speculation.

“Referring to statements made by certain parties, I wish to clarify that I was not involved in any meeting in Bangkok referred to by some as the ‘Bangkok Move’ as reported.

“Any meeting or discussion linked to that matter did not involve me and has nothing to do with me,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page on Friday (March 6) night.

He hopes all parties will refrain from speculating and linking him to events that he said did not occur.

“I hope all parties do not speculate or associate my name with matters that did not happen,” he stated.

Previously, Zahid reportedly held a meeting with Hamzah last year to discuss the unification of Malay and Islamic parties.

Sources indicated that, besides Hamzah, Zahid is said to have met with Dr Sam and the PN deputy secretary-general (who is also PAS secretary-general), Takiyuddin, in December last year.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly claimed that his former deputy president planned to become deputy prime minister through the formation of a coalition with other parties. — March 7, 2026
