AIRASIA CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has done it again, this time drawing the ire of netizens over his selfie with a shiny new Tesla Model Y on social media.
“Independence day. Going green. No more gasoline. Gone electric. Rented Tesla model Y for two weeks. Love it,” he wrote on Instagram.
According to automotive website Motortrend.com, the high-tech car is said to cost approximately US$55,190 (a eye-watering RM229,315).
Amid praises for going green and questions as to whether the new car would be part of AirAsia’s new e-hailing service, the 57-year-old Malaysian businessman’s Instagram page was flooded with comments from irate customers demanding their ticket refunds.
“The car’s side mirror is from taking my money during MCO 1.0. I’ve purchased AirAsia flight tickets for months but was unable to fly. There goes my money,” said user @mahdialjunied.
Instagram user @mzhl_ is one of the many who are demanding their refunds. “Please refund the burnt flight tickets first,” he urged the AirAsia head honcho.
AirAsia has only been issuing refunds for unused airline tickets in the form of AirAsia credits, which were normally obtained after a tedious process that could take up a year.
While there have been news reports that the comment section also included those by disgruntled employees demanding to be paid on time, no such comments can be found at the time of writing, thus suggesting that most negative entries have been deleted.
Meanwhile, in related news, AirAsia has welcomed the Government’s recent announcement for the domestic travel resumption starting with the Langkawi domestic travel bubble beginning Sept 16, 2021.
The highly-anticipated move will pave way for more domestic and international travel resumption in the near future as the COVID-19 situation continues to improve and more people get vaccinated.
According to AirAsia Group, its operating crew and frontline staff have been 100% vaccinated, while numerous contactless safety and hygiene measures are in place to ensure the highest standards are maintained ahead of the resumption of air travel. – Sept 3, 2021
