Airlines received 37 air traffic rights in 4Q 2019 – Mavcom

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) says it approved 37 Air Traffic Rights (ATR) applications in the fourth quarter of 2019, or 94.8% of the applications received.

According to its quarterly ATR report for Oct 1-Dec 31, 2019, of the 37 approved ATR, 12 were for domestic routes and the rest for international routes.

“Approvals for international routes were further broken down into 15 ATR for routes to Asean destinations, five for destinations in China, three for destinations in the Middle East and two for other Asian destinations,” it said.

For the final quarter of 2019, the report said, Malindo Air received the most number of approvals (15 ATR) while AirAsia Group and Malaysia Airlines Bhd followed with 10 and seven allocations respectively.

Meanwhile, for 2019 overall, the commission approved 98.9% of the 175 ATR applications it received, comprising 60 ATR for domestic destinations, 60 for Asean destinations, 26 for destinations in China and the remaining 27 for other Asian destinations and Australia.

“For the full year of 2019, the AirAsia Group received the highest number of ATR allocations with 75,” it said.

Meanwhile, of the 37 ATR approvals in the final quarter of 2019, 21 were issued for flights originating from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL), three from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) and the remaining 13 from other Malaysian airports.

Mavcom also revealed that 27 ATR that were approved prior to the final quarter of 2019 were not utilised by the respective airlines and were subsequently returned to Mavcom during the quarter.

“The highest number of unutilised ATR were from AirAsia Group (16) and Malaysia Airlines (six). An additional five applications were also voluntarily withdrawn by the airlines (AirAsia two and Malaysia Airlines three) in that period,” it added. – Jan 9, 2020 Bernama
